This site was set up by Bart Grasmeijer, Senior Specialist in Coastal Engineering at Alkyon Hydraulic Consultancy & Research. Bart has more than 13 years experience in scientific research and consultancy in the area of hydrodynamics, sediment transport processes and small and large scale morphology. At Alkyon Bart performs sediment transport- and morphological studies, e.g. on the developments of the Ems-Dollard estuary and the effect of deepening of the fairway towards Eemshaven, the effects of dumping mud in the Ems-Dollard estuary, effects of deepening the navigation channel in the Corantijn River in Surinam, stimulate salt marsh development in the Schelphoek in the Western Scheldt estuary in The Netherlands, effects of extending Karachi Port in Pakistan, beach morphology development and the effect of an innovative method for natural sedimentation on the beach. In his previous position as a researcher and Assistant Professor at Utrecht University he has been involved in the planning and analysis of field and laboratory measurements, adopting the experience in developing various numerical models. He has participated in various Dutch and EU-sponsored research programs and has contributed nationally as well as internationally to several projects in which he brings in his expertise on currents, waves, sediment transport, bedforms, morphology and numerical modelling. Bart is an active contributor to the Open Earth initiative and an experienced user of the Delft3D model.
